The Crest

In the 14th Century, Cornwall was described as a separate country, a large land formerly bearing the name of a kingdom. Since King Arthur, seen by many as a leader of Celtic resistance against Anglo- Saxon domination many Cornish folk today pronounce a spirit of independence from the rest of England. The coat of arms upon this document represents Cornish history and culture.

Arthur's Excalibur, the dragon allusive to King Uther Pendragon, legendary father of Arthur, the split Celtic wheel-cross representing the earliest Cornish culture, the "Cornish shovel " representing Cornish mining tradition and mineral wealth. The Cornish Chough, related to the Jackdaw and now almost extinct has been featured on over 20 Cornish family arms. The ducal crown and shield are centuries old symbols of the Duke of Cornwall.

The banner beneath written upon in the Cornish language translates to "One and All" a statement said to be the very best description of a Cornish welcome!
